Can I hire an AA?
Anesthesiologist Assistants are licensed in eight states. To find out if your state offers an anesthesiologist assistant licensure program, click here to view the CAA work states map. If your state does not presently provide the legislative or delegatory option of AA practice, consultation should take place with the board of medicine or other governing body in your state to explore the specific legal implications of AA practice in your state. General information on the steps to establish CAA practice is available from the ASA's Office of Governmental and Legal Affairs. You may also inquire of other state societies as to their local advocacy and procedural steps that have led to gaining the option to hire CAAs. Please contact the American Academy of Anesthesiology Assistants for further guidance on this issue. The Frequently Asked Questions page also has valuable information on questions related to the hiring of CAAs.
